You can tell that they’ve ditched the U-shaped sidepods for more traditional ones, albeit very square and flatter than some.

Still, you would think that they’d spice up the livery a bit from time to time. I’m a bit bored with the same thing every year now, but at least it doesn’t have the ugly front that the caterham car has.

(via It Will Be Cheaper to Download Vita Games Than to Buy Their...

(via It Will Be Cheaper to Download Vita Games Than to Buy Their Boxed Counterparts)

Finally, common sense prevails. Well, so they say. I’ll believe it when I see it. This from the company charging £60 for download versions of not even very good £40 games.

(via Rubens Barrichello keen on IndyCar move after test with KV...

(via Rubens Barrichello keen on IndyCar move after test with KV Racing Technology - IndyCar news - AUTOSPORT.com)

I’d love to see him get a deal for the road courses next year. I think he’d be great for the team and give them a chance to win races. I don’t really want to see him in oval races though after what happened in Vegas. It’s just so dangerous to do those in open wheel cars.

(via Peugeot ends Le Mans programme with immediate effect - Le...

(via Peugeot ends Le Mans programme with immediate effect - Le Mans news - AUTOSPORT.com)

What a huge disappointment and a shock. I don’t understand the logic behind this. It’s the brand new and more prestigious FIA world endurance championship and the car is already built and ready so it’s just a waste not to use it.

Peugeot are basically handing Audi the championship before it’s even begun and puts all of their top drivers in a very difficult position to find new drives in time.

Guys like Anthony Davidson, Sebastian Bourdais and the others should have a competitive drive but I’m not sure where they’re going to find one at short notice.

(via World Rally Championship close to promotion solution - WRC...

(via World Rally Championship close to promotion solution - WRC news - AUTOSPORT.com)

I can’t wait to see him pitch in MLB. Even if he’s not as successful in the US as he has been in Japan, he’ll still be a great addition to anyone’s starting rotation, and will provide a great boost of interest from Japan and in the league in general.

Video footage of a recovering Bryan Stow - CBSSports.com

Video footage of a recovering Bryan Stow - CBSSports.com:
This is just absolutely sickening. I mean for people to attack a good man at a baseball game for no reason is bad enough. But for a simple assault to escalate to a point where this man has been essentially robbed of the normal rest of his life that he would have most likely had is so appalling.

I hope he makes the best possible recovery he can and wish him and his family the best.

(via BBC News - Union backs Royal Mail bike cuts)

A new extreme winter sport variant is born, or it’s become visible to me at least.

It definitely gets me more excited about skiing. I’ve always been more into snowboarding but this actually does make me want to try skiing more than I ever wanted to before.

I’m not sure what to make of...

Fixed. (by Charge Bikes)

I’m not sure what to make of riding fixie bikes as a kind of new style urban riding similar to BMX and trials.

I think fixie bikes are great. They’re simple, minimalistic and bulletproof for commuting and having fun. They’re fashion accessories whether you just like to glide around town or pull a few tricks. However, in this video and others in the series, they just give cyclists a bad name by being so reckless in the centre of London pulling wheelies in heavy traffic with centimetres to play with on either side.

I like the idea of using them for tricks to some degree. Fixed wheel does open up some opportunities for different tricks and it differentiates this form of trick cycling from others.

However, it also closes off more trick avenues than it opens in my opinion. You can’t jump properly like you can with BMX and mountain bikes because you are restricted by constantly having to pedal.

It makes me cringe a bit watching people slide their tyres like that. I thought it was cool when I was in my first year of high school but since I realised that tyres need to be looked after.

The riders need to be far more respectful of those around them though. There’s a line between cool and stupid which unfortunately this guy and others cross. A skate park or somewhere that’s quiet with no traffic are where this should take place, not in gridlocked city traffic.

I know that makes me sound like a grumpy old man beyond my years, but it’s just so difficult for cyclists to gain the respect of motorists and pedestrians and people like these riders ruin any progress the rest of us make.

(via HP wasted billions on Palm and webOS | The Verge)

With hindsight I’m sure they realise that it would have been a better idea to just build their own Android powered tablet and leave Palm to probably dissolve. Obviously you don’t want to see big names go out of business but Palm just don’t have anything going for them right now from what I can tell.

They aren’t innovating and they aren’t selling in bulk like Nokia do so I don’t see where the value was in inheriting them and their irrelevant mobile operating system WebOS.

(via Galaxy Nexus review | The Verge)

This is quite exciting. I think they could have a success here and may well join the ranks of the biggest banks in the country eventually. They’re inheriting a pretty large business to start with and have plenty of room to grow. Of course, they could end up as small fry in a similar way to Virgin Mobile but I think even if that were to be the case, it’s still a positive move for the brand to get into high street banking. Plus, it’s something fresh and exciting for customers who perhaps would be glad of a change from the norm.

(via Tumblr Numbers: The Rapid Rise of Social Blogging...

(via Tumblr Numbers: The Rapid Rise of Social Blogging [INFOGRAPHIC])

This is fascinating. I thought a while back that Tumblr had already got to or was nearing its peak popularity but apparently I was totally wrong.

I guess it has been lucky in differentiating itself from similar products like Twitter and Wordpress etc. It is a short message service but not quite. It is a blogging platform, but not quite. The best way to describe it is as a sharing platform. Far more than Facebook and Twitter are because you’re free of the distractions on those sites. It’s pure content creation and curation in a simple and beautiful manner.

A lot of the time, posts are just pictures, but not only that, they’re reblogged from other people, sometimes without even a comment from that blog’s author. Sometimes just a sentence.

In the default state, you can’t even comment. You can only like or reblog. That’s Tumblr. Simple and beautiful sharing.

(via Microsoft bringing Windows ‘down to the phone’...

(via Microsoft bringing Windows ‘down to the phone’ with Windows 8 | The Verge)

I’m not sure exactly what he means by this, but it certainly sounds like they would rather simplify a desktop OS than upscale a mobile OS like Apple does, or at least does in part by bringing innovations in mobile back to their desktop products.

This is in my opinion the far better way. Windows phone is something fresh and new, and while it won’t be much of a threat to iOS and Android, it’s still a fresh new product. Desktop Windows seems to always be recycled code in a lot of areas and never truly starts fresh, so for them to be talking about porting this down to mobile is surely a disaster waiting to happen. It’s typical Microsoft and they need to go in a new direction if they’re to mount a serious challenge in the mobile OS space, not to mention keeping Apple and possibly even Google behind them in the desktop space in years to come.

(via Residents Want Mountain Bike Course Open Post-Olympics |...

(via Residents Want Mountain Bike Course Open Post-Olympics | Cyclingnews.com)

Too bad Steve didn’t get to see this but it’s another thing people will realise he and Apple were right in saying all along. It seemed to me like it was only ever going to cause battery life draining and software incompatibility problems.

The simple fact is that right now and for practically as long as the sport has existed, there have only been a select few cars that can win races. This year half of the teams or more are satisfied with just a point or two at the races and that shouldn’t be the case.

In an ideal world, I’d prefer there to be 2 car teams all with competitive equipment and strong drivers but unfortunately I don’t see that happening any time soon.

The only realistic way to achieve a more competitive, more exciting championship is to either allow the top teams to run 3 or 4 cars like they do in NASCAR or to bring back customer cars in a similar fashion to MotoGP where customer bikes are commonplace. They won’t be quite up to the standard of the factory machinery but they’ll be far better than what they currently get lapped 4 times per race in and they’ll probably end up saving money by not having to develop their own cars from scratch.
