Facebook testing ‘subscribe to’ user feature - Telegraph

I thought you already could subscribe to someones updates already. The difference here may be that you will be able to follow people, even non-friends like on twitter. It’s also possible that where before you could only subscribe via SMS, soon you could be able to get notifications on the site or have those people be given top priority in your news feed. In a way it seems similar to a like button for regular profiles instead of pages.

I’m going to have to be convinced about this. I just prefer when people come to my own site to view my content where I have full control. Facebook are taking more and more control away from me in terms of content sharing. The privacy settings are ok but they need to do the same for content. Allow people to find my stuff and not have it forced upon them so to speak.

Steve Jobs: iTunes 10 Icon Does Not ‘Suck’

I love two things about this. Firstly that Steve is so up front with his emailing to anyone, and also that someone went to the trouble to make an account for the new icon, and then talk as if they were in its shoes so to speak.

This seems to happen quite often on twitter now, but it’s pretty amusing as a novelty, and it makes me feel bad for the poor old icon, as if it really did have feelings..

Most Outrageously Scary Bridges From Around the World

I wouldn’t say I have a fear of heights necessarily, as I’ve been up their Eiffel Tower before, albeit not to the top but even so.

It’s more a fear of things that look like they could collapse when I walk or drive over them. That one in the French mountains looks absolutely terrifying. I would always think in those situations that so many people have crossed this bridge, it’s bound to wear out and send me plunging into oblivion. They should probably hand out parachutes and do training sessions before you cross that one just in case the worst happens.

The Clifton Suspension Bridge is another I dreaded going over in the car. When we crossed it at first I felt ok, but then going down to ground level and looking up to realise how high up we were on that old looking bridge made me feel a bit sick.

AMD kills ATI brand - Engadget

I can see why they did this, because AMD do have a combo processor / graphics product coming out and it does make sense to have as simple branding as possibe. Especially if both your brands are 3 letters long and both start with A.

On the other hand, it’s sad to lose such a well respected name in PC gaming, and gaming in general as they power the Wii and possibly other consoles.

Playstation Move Tech Demos. This does show a lot of potential in the move. If it’s well set up, the accuracy is so far beyond the Wii, even with motionplus. It looks as if you won’t get the same calibration issues that plagues the Wii system and in general looks far better of a motion control product.

Combined with the HD and 3D of PS3, it’s going to be interesting to see what kind of immersive experiences those can create. 3D will take a while to gain any real traction though which is a problem.

F1 2010 Final Look - Xbox 360 Preview at IGN

I’m still playing and loving the Wii version from last year so I can only imagine how much I’ll love this game.

I might as well just say it’s my joint game of the year, with GT5, because almost nothing can top the fun of this for me.

I should also mention that I already knew the Wii version wasn’t a great looking game, but after seeing this, it looks like it was made 10 years ago.

Leaked Case Design Suggests iPod Nano May Gain Smaller Square Form Factor - Mac Rumors

This is very interesting. The next nano hasn’t been talked about at all from what I’ve read recently so it’s nice to see something now.

Those cases are small and therefore the device will be even smaller. I would suggest that this is a new nano and not a shuffle because even at that size it’s still bigger than the current gen shuffle.

I don’t think Apple would want to go in that direction with that device as they’ve worked hard on the voice control and portability of that device, and I don’t think the people who use that device really want to have to deal with a touch screen while they run.

I think maybe the nano hasn’t been as successful for Apple as it has been in years past despite it still being a great product. I think they’re trying to really do something drastic here to reinvigorate that product line.

This is hardly surprising, but it does make me question where we are in terms of each generation of TV which has come and been ignored by many people, whether intentional or not.

Digital TV through cable, satellite or freeview has been around for a decade now, but still there are quite a few who can’t even keep up with that.

Then there’s HD, also available through cable, satellite and freeview now. With freeview having no monthly fee combined with improving aerial signals and a high adoption rate of HD TV sets, you would think that these numbers would be soaring, but I don’t think they are.

People often end up with an HD TV with no HD sources plugged in. Sometimes an HD source plugged in with a standard definition cable and so on. Games consoles like PS3 and Xbox 360 don’t help because they don’t include the HDMI cables in the box, and instead give you PS2 style composite cables, which is ridiculous, but it’s been that way since 2006 so it’s not worth going into further.

It’s not a question of being elitist by having blu-ray and HD. It’s simply about taking advantage of what you have under your nose that you could be wasting. A £10 cable will elevate your Gaming and Movie watching experience massively so it’s always worth seeing what you can improve.

This is quite funny because I was just going to write a full blog post on Facebook Places, the new service that resembles foursquare. Not only is the service almost identical, but the logo just happens to be a 4 in a square.

These types of stories just never fail to infuriate me. He’s just embarrassed himself hugely by saying how un-british it is to play a game.

Let’s be clear. Guns in real life are awful killing machines which in the wrong hands are some of the worst things imaginable.

The crimes of that taxi driver and others were horrific and it was a time when I was a bit wary going out because something like that could potentially happen anywhere at any time, although very unlikely.

That is true, but that fact is that I and most other people my age play games and they don’t consider guns in games as real guns. I suppose we’re desensitised and don’t consider them the same thing.

The reason why these stories are always so prevalent is because the people who don’t play games don’t have that same resistance to seeing guns in games, especially where this game is located may be close to home for some.

But still, people have to realise that playing this game or any other similar one is not un-british. It’s just a game.

I think it’s going to take quite a few more years before people can finally see games and movies as equals in terms of accepting their controversial natures whenever they happen.

In the end, they should be banning actual guns not games.

Corin is I think the only serious one and she’s not a contender for me. Mario is up there but I don’t think he’s popular enough at this late stage of the series.

JJ and Andrew both have basically no chance of winning so they would just be making up the numbers in the final.
